There is also a world of helpful applications and websites. Take time to explore these options, and note what resonates with you. What makes you think “that will work for us?”
There are many tools online to aid you in improving your social media plan, and to learn how to make the most out of these communication platforms.
Who Should I Be Following?
Buffer, a social media scheduling tool, maintains an excellent blog that is loaded with content and specific pieces of advice for your social media marketing. Buffer is an easy-to-use scheduling application; it allows people to post from their social media accounts in bulk ahead of time.
SproutSocial is a robust scheduling tool that makes social media scheduling efficient, saving time and helping you stay organized.
NTEN is the Nonprofit Technology Network, which is an organization of nonprofit technology professionals – this group is committed to helping nonprofits use technology more effectively. Their Twitter feed is full of useful articles and tips, and they are a great resource to stay up-to-date on the latest technology in the nonprofit sector.
Note that there are many free resources available for you to use. Nonprofit Tech for Good has webinars that are full of valuable information for nonprofits. The Foundation Center hosts live and virtual events for nonprofits to learn more about using social media and improving your email campaigns.
Many other groups and online networks out there provide resources for you to use – many of them for free! For smaller nonprofits who don’t have access to photo editing software, even creating visually stunning images is possible for free using services like Canva.

Canva makes it easy to create a social media image in 2 minutes flat. You simply select a template, like a Facebook cover image, or an Instagram post. Next, you choose an image; you can use either one of Canva’s free stock photos or your own photo, and post some text on top of the image.
