Happy Halloween from everydayhero!
To get in the spirit of the holiday, we wanted to share some of our favorite charity stories that involve costumes, zombies and more!
Costumes for a Cause
Without a costume, Jacob French’s campaign to raise money for the Starlight Foundation may have flown under the radar. However, with a little help from his friends at the 501st Legion, his walk across Australia in stormtrooper costume spread quickly not only in Australia but overseas, as well. With people from all around the world chipping in, he ended up raising over $100,000 for his cause!
The Walking Dead
Ellis Longhurst decided to tap into popular culture when she set off to fundraise for the Cat Protection Society of New South Wales. In addition to dressing in a crazy costume for City2Surf, she referred to her race training as preparation for a zombie apocalypse, much to the delight of fans of The Walking Dead, World War Z and other recent zombie TV shows and movies. By making race training a bit more exciting and involving donors in costume selection, she managed to raise over $1,500.
Grab a Friend
Halloween wouldn’t be the same without a few friends to celebrate with — and the same is true for fundraising! When Ben German decided to take his motorcycle across the country to support the Independence Fund, he brought his friends Lucas and Kevin long for the ride. Having two good friends with him not only made the trip more fun but also helped get their cause’s information out to even more people. They ended up coming home with more than $7,500 to help veterans.
Next time you fundraise, follow these great individuals’ leads and have fun with it! Throw on a costume, paint your face or tap into a unique hobby — and grab some friends! You never know where it might take you.
